  Latex

What is Latex?

Latex is derived from the sap of hevea brasiliensis, or the rubber tree, found in Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Cameroon, and other areas. Belgian Latex is the finest, most naturally durable cushioning material available. Latex provides the perfect balance of comfort and support for years and years of service.

How is Latex made?

Produced from the sap of the rubber trees on working plantations, latex milk (sap) is harvested by tapping into the rubber tree in much the same way as maple syrup is obtained from the maple tree. The Latex milk is stored in tanker trucks and is shipped to a modern latex processing plant in Belgium. The milky white latex liquid is converted into a workable substance with by adding an isoprene stabilizer. Depending on the type of Latex desired (Talalay or Dunlop) the natural Belgian Latex substance is then poured into the appropriate molding venue and processed. The finished cores are rinsed and washed to eliminate any remaining particulate and odor. Each core is quality checked, graded and packaged for shipment. At Classic we use both Talalay and Dunlop processed natural Latex.

What is synthetic Latex?

Synthetic Latex it is comprised of 2 monomers, styrene and butadiene both derivates of petroleum, origin: petrochemical industry.

What is organic Latex?

Latex handmade in small batches of what is commonly referred to as a totally “100%” organic latex. It is not entirely 100% Natural Latex Rubber. Organic Latex must contain something to stabilize it, which in this case is approximately 10% clay, 5% natural sand, 4% water and 1% “natural” sulfur. The finished size and general consistency of this product may vary due to the small batches made, and the methods used.

Why is the natural Latex we use so special?

Because natural Belgian Latex is so healthy and ecologically-friendly that it passes strict European Eco-standards. Meeting these standards certifies that the latex has no chemical properties that would cause a reaction in humans, and that it causes no detrimental impact to the environment during manufacturing. In addition, latex is hygienic, 300% more resistant to dust mites, is naturally hypo-allergenic and anti-bacterial and anti-microbial. Latex will not support mold. Latex won’t support bacteria and won’t support fungus or mildew. Latex is perfect for pulmonary allergy sufferers. Latex will not allow moisture to build up next to the body.

Will I sleep warm on Latex?

Unless you are normally a warm sleeper (due to medications taken, food eaten, medical conditions, heavy smoker or drinker, etc.,) you will not sleep warmer on Latex. Latex breathes and allows for air circulation. It does not hold body heat.

How does Latex support my body during sleep?

By gently conforming to every contour of the body, latex provides superior back support and outstanding pressure relief. Relieving pressure reduces the tossing and turning that interrupts sleep and brings needed oxygen and nutrients to tired, aching muscles. Only Latex naturally provides the deeper, more regenerative night’s sleep your body needs.

I am allergic to Latex; can I sleep on a Latex mattress?

Because of the way our Belgian Latex is processed the proteins which are the culprit in Latex allergies are removed. There is no smell connected with Latex. Additionally, Latex allergy is a contact allergy (like using a latex glove) and our Latex is embedded in the other component materials which make our mattresses so stress and pressure free and so soothingly comfortable. In 30+ years of using Belgian Latex products there has never been a case of any type of reaction associated with this product.
